During the Christmas season, the parish comes together to bring joy to children and families living in poverty who are referred by the Salvation Army. A Christmas tree is placed in the Social Hall with the names of the families and clothing sizes on the tree. Parishioners purchase and place wrapped gifts under the tree for the committee to sort and deliver to the Salvation Army for distribution to families in need.
Soup with Love
Each Friday during Lent, homemade meatless soups and breads are served to parishioners and the Gloucester community. Coordinators are needed to establish a telephone chain and recruit volunteers to set up, cook, serve, help in the kitchen, and clean up afterward.
Names of families living in poverty are given to the committee by the Salvation Army. Turkeys are donated or purchased by parishioners. The committee packages the turkeys with assorted vegetables and food or gift certificates to Food Lion or Wal-Mart for families to purchase needed food for their Thanksgiving holiday.
